Obituary

ROME, NY - Edward M. Barella, 97, of 1004 VanBuren Avenue, Rome, NY died Sunday June 20, 2004, at the Stonehedge Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Angelina Oppito Barella, whom he married on November 29, 1934, in Torrington, Connecticut.

He was the owner of Barella's Tavern on Washington Avenue in Torrington. He attended schools in Italy, and was an avid bowler and enjoyed dancing and singing. He was a devout Yankee fan. While living in Torrington, he was a member of St. Peter Church, and in Rome, attended St. John the Baptist Church.

He was born September 8, 1906 in Chuisa DiSan Michele, Italy, son of the late Michael and Olympia Cantore Barella.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Eric and Marge Barella of Torrington; a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Louis Mastracco of Rome, NY; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John, in 1953.

His funeral will be held Friday, June 25 at St. Peter Church in Torrington, Connecticut. Everyone is to meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetary. There will be no calling hours.
